Hero Burger at Church & Wellesley

First things first - I got the chance to go to Hero Burger with a ladyfriend (don't worry, I don't have a girlfriend). A Burger Boy never turns down an opportunity to go out for a burger with a ladyfriend. This particular ladyfriend happens to be my Principal's daughter, so I am a bit worried about how the Principal would react if the date didn't turn out well. Thankfully, it did and we have a second date for a burger next week. ChaCHING. At first glance, we thought Hero Burger was full of stairs (which could have been a problem for A Burger Boy since said boy of the burger is in a wheelchair). Turns out, Hero Burger was accessible. After looking over the menu, A Burger Boy ordered the 6oz burger (you can't be afraid to go heavy on the meat) and fries. I ordered a Fruitopia to drink - very sweet but an acquired taste.  A Burger Boy thought the presentation was better than McDonalds but still uninspired. I had ketchup on my fries and they were awesome. They were hot, unlike some other establishments (see my post about Licks), and I ate almost all of them. Now for the burger. The 6oz burger was a monster - just big enough for A Burger Boy, served in the classic style - just ketchup. The bun to burger ratio was a 7. The bun was seeded, but sadly not toasted. I ate it anyway. It tasted like a machine-made burger, not handmade, which affects its score. You can never give machine-made burgers the same score as handmade ones. Overall, the burger was good, about a 6. That is as high as I am going to go because I'm just getting back into things after my Eaters Block and I don't want to be too generous, plus Hero Burger is a chain establishment. Final words on Hero Burger: it was juicy and better than many of the fast food joints A Burger Boy has visited.

Excuse the limited number of pictures - my photographer/date fell down on the job. She's on probation for next week.

A sign of good things to come

I'm Back

To my little sliders,

I'm back and ready to attack. It was a very busy year for A Burger Boy. I haven't blogged for a year because I was suffering from what I like to call "Eaters Block". Eaters Block is when a guy (or a blogger, like myself) doesn't know what to do next. I was faced with some tough decisions, like whether or not to quit the blog or to keep said blog. But first things first - the fans are never turned away.

So I'm happy to announce I am back on the blog - cured from Eaters Block. Just like my title says: I'm back baby. I'm back and ready to attack...THE BURGER.

I invite you to leave comments.

Yours in beef patties,
A Burger Boy

Burger Joint at Le Parker Meridien Hotel, NYC

First things first, I went to New York City to see the Yankees play against the Twins. We did not get to see the Yankees play.  They swept Morneau and Mauer so there was no game on Sunday night.

Now, I was very hungry so it was time for my first burger in New York.  We went to a place my dad heard about inside a fancy hotel.  When we got there we had to wait in line.  There were people speaking many different languages in line.  When we got to the front of the line they make you fill out a little piece of paper with your order.  Mine was in Japanese???  This tiny place looked messy, a lot like Dangerous Dan’s.  Graffiti was on the walls and on the tables, everywhere.  The people in the kitchen were yelling at each other.  I had no issues with my wheelchair here. This is a very fun place.

I ordered the burger, fries & a Diet Coke.  My food came in a paper bag, not a plate.  The Diet Coke was flat and watery.  The big order of fries were hot, very thin, and nice and crispy.  I liked them.  Now, let me tell you about the burger.  The meat was fresh and very juicy.  They cooked it medium rare, just the way A Burger Boy asked.  The bun was soft and fresh with a light toast on the inside.  The bun to burger ratio was just right.  You can taste the char from the grill.  It was big enough for me.  Let me say, this was a burger worth waiting in line for. An 8 for sure.

Dangerous Dan's Diner

It's Sunday at lunch and a burger boy is hungry.
First things first my dad says that we have jobs to do.  We went to the car wash.  Then we went to the Cookbook Store; my dad loves to read cookbooks.
There were a lot of strange people in our neighbourhood wrapped in tin foil.  Dad told me that's what people wear after running a marathon.  Weirdos!!!
The traffic was bad so it took a really long time to make it to Dangerous Dan's Diner.  When we got to the front door I had no problems getting my wheelchair in.  The place is small, very messy and you sit on car seats.  This place is cool.  A big guy with a biker beard told us that we had to come to the front to order.  I got my burger and a poutine.  The man served us himself when the burger was ready.  The poutine was very big, very hot and very good.  Just the right ratio of cheese to gravy on hot crispy fries.  Let me say the burger had the best bun to burger ratio, just the way a burger boy likes.  The burger was a hand made 8oz burger.  My dad wouldn't let me order the one-pound burger.  I really wanted the one-pound burger.  The burger had very good flavor from the grill and spices. It was cooked medium well and was nice and juicy. The bun was toasted.  Only one thing I did not like was the burger crumbled into pieces as I ate it. My dad stole the last crumb from my plate.
We ordered a deep fried Mars Bar for dessert. This was really, really, really good. The ice cream tasted like the ice cream at my school, not like Baskin Robbins.  I shared it with my sister and my dad.

A Burger Boy gives this place an 8. I think I will come back to this greasy spoon.

Jobs to do before the burger.

What's so dangerous about a burger?

Johnny Rockets at Yonge Dundas Square

After my haircut today my dad and I felt like getting a hamburger.  Let's just say the boy likes burgers.
We decided to go to Johnny Rockets. It's close to the AMC theatre and the Future shop where I get my video games.  The restaurant was very very busy.  I like to sit at the counter. They have a jukebox on the counter that only costs one nickle. It doesn't have any AC/DC or Led Zeppelin.
I ordered a burger with fries and a root beer. My dad had the patty melt with a diet coke. I watched the kitchen while we waited for our lunch. There were a lot of busy people in there and they are all young.
After what seemed like a long time, our food finally came. It was nice and hot. The bun was soft and toasted on the inside. This is a very good hamburger bun. Let's just say the bun to burger ratio was just right. The hamburger was machine made.  It was juicier than other machine made burgers. It is not a very big burger. My fries were hot and crispy.  I like the ketchup smile our waiter made. One bad thing both mine and my dad's pop was kind of flat.
It took a long time for my dad to pay the bill. The waiter only charged us for my burger, not my dad's. My dad asked the waiter why the bill was only $9.00. It took 4 of them and 10 minutes to figure out what my dad should pay.

All in all the burger boy give this one a 7.

After lunch we went up to the Future Shop.

A Burger at the Jays v. Rays Game

First things first.  Adam Lind, that was awesome!!!! The arsonist gave up the run in the top of the 9th then you hit that monster blast. Wow, walk off two run homer.

I was hungry, so my dad asked me if I wanted a burger.  Last time I had a burger at a Blue Jays game I burnt my mouth. The burger was filled with very hot juice from what my dad said was the steam tray. It really really hurt me. This time the burger was not very hot. The bun was not great. The burger was dry. I drank a whole bottle of diet coke with it.

Listen to the boy, when you go to a Blue Jays game get the pulled pork not the burger.

Off to see the Jays v. Rays

On the griddle, then into the steam tray.

The Burger???

W Burger Bar

First things first. I wanted to go to W Burger because my grandmother said it was really really good. When we got there I had a small problem. The restaurant isn't wheelchair friendly. My dad had to lift me, in my chair, into the restaurant.  I like to be able to do it myself.

Well let me see... It's is a very big menu, but I am her for one thing. A burger!!! The restaurant gave me some carrot sticks & celery while I waited for my burger. I don't eat carrots or celery, so I shared them with my dad.  When the burger finally came it looked good.  It was kind of thick and home made looking. The bun to burger ratio was OK. Still more bun than I like. The bun was nice and fresh. The burger was hot and cooked just right. Nice and juicy with a hint of char from the grill. This is the way my dad makes hamburgers. I like the way my dad makes hamburgers. I finished the whole thing. I liked W Burger. I think I will go back.

Next time I want an Arnold Palmer to drink.

At People'S Foods Restaurant

Well, first things first I enjoy People's Foods' burgers.

I find the bun to burger ratio is a bit off.  The patty could be a bit bigger and the bun could be a bit smaller. The bun was fresh and soft. My burger was cooked well done.  Today it was a bit dry. I only had Heinz ketchup on my burger.  I had some of my dad's hot and crispy fries.  I ate an onion ring or two too. I drank a diet Coke. My Dad's Jumburger looked good.

All in all not the very best burger I've had at People's, but good.

At the Jays vs Rangers game

The pulled pork sandwich I had today wasn't a burger. It came on a burger bun. The sandwich was large enough to satisfy me. The sauce was mild, sweet and flavourful. The pork could have been warmer but in the end it was a fine sandwich. I did not eat the coleslaw. The burger boy doesn't eat coleslaw!!!

By the way the Jays won a thriller 7 - 2.
